Sections day 1:



Great day absolutely perfect, The Northern Lights were excited to get things rolling early as they had been denied their chance a week earlier. The team minus Jake, was at the fields warming up by at as planned. We opened up with St. Thomas B, this was a good game for us as it gave us a chance to build up our confidence, get our legs warm, and get our heads into the game. This game was never in doubt we, played fun spirited ultimate with this team and shut them out 15-0. all in all it was a good game, our starters got a good warm up in, and our second string players were able to get a lot of play time. Our second game was against Carlton "B" I put the B in quotes because it is in a lot of ways a rag tag group of players that doesn't even go to tournaments, we came out strong against these guys and were up 10-2, things got a little heated when they double spiked it on us, then Smurgz spiked it on one of their players, he may or may not have been on the ground when he spiked it...not thaaaat important, anyways we keep rolling and shut them out from that point on and looked forward to taking it to St. Olaf and taking it to them. Because both teams had finished their first 2 rounds early we had a lot of time before the start of our next game. That being said the captains managed to round up our players and got us warmed up and ready for what would be the toughest game we had to that point.









St. Olaf:




We started on D with them going up wind. Olaf moves the disc very efficently and scores very easily. The O line goes in and does the very same thing disc is moved efficiently no turns D-town scores 1-1. Our d-line goes in and is determined to get the break. After some hard D we are able to get the break going down wind and score quickly, score is now 2-1 we get ready to complete the break and get the easy downwind break. The D force a turn quickly and the score is now 3-1 Duluth, the sidelines are in it, the focus is in everyones eys clearly this is going to be a game for Duluth to lose and not a game for Olaf to win. Next D point, Duluth gets the D and another break, Olaf burns a time out to try and maintain their composure and so that the game does not get to far out of their reach. Olaf is able to find their composure and attmepts to reassert their authoirty as the 1 seed, they go on a small run and get all but one of the breaks back, it is at this time that the lights call a time out and tell everyone to calm down, but bring the sideline intensity back. points get traded back and forth up until half, D-town still in the lead and Olaf still trying t figure out where the fuck we came from. we put out a sick line coming out of half and score right away, we never look bac at this point. There are some longer points and the game does get capped, but Duluth wins 13-10. huge shock to everone in the section but Duluth. D-town wins the pool and now has a much easier quarterfinals matchup against archrival GOP.



GOP:

well as has happened so many times before things get heated pretty early, it isn't that they have that poor of spirit it is that we see these guys at every fucking tournament it seems like, and it would be nice to play someone else, that being said there was no way in hell we were going to give this game up. D-town was on a mission, we had to defend R-barr, and Duluth, we had hyped ourselves upnow it was time to delivar, we win this game we are in the semi-finals, our main goal for the entire year. well after our win over Olaf GOP seems like a walk in the park, we get rolling early things get heated, one guy wantes all to huddle up and talk about our feelings or some shit like that, Mckean was not about to do that and keep on rolling this game was never even close. GOP know's that cannot play with us, just not gonna happen, it has been well over a year now since this has happened they want to beat us but we want it more. well Duluth goes 4-0 on the day and finds itself with a semi's matchup with grey duck, we are 1 win away from clinching a spot at regions.



Sunday:

we got smoked by Grey duck not even close. we came out just play stupidly not too focused too many drops early on to recover, we end up loosing this game because of ourselves 15-6. we start having fun at the end of that game and get ready for what we think will be a rematch with Olaf, not exactly what we wanted, but to our surprise the Johnnies BAM pulls the upset and BEATS olaf.



St, Johns, the Johnnies possibly one of my favorite teams to play, spirited bunch of guys who play hard, they are a good team, that graduated a lot of key players, that being said we have them mind fucked and they are never able to get their focus going and we steam role them they don't know what to do, they just know they don't want to play us again Duluth wins 15-7, the game winning goal was caught by yours truly.



Duluth v. Winona

well we haven't in our heads that we can take the rest of the tourney off we are into regionals worst we can do is 5th, and do not give our best effort against Winona. we turn it over too many times to recover, and are unable to get things going we open up the lines and us second stringers get a chance to try and step up, not to take the focus off the team but, I put up one of the best hucks of my life in this game, i get the disc on a strike cut, I have no mark, Claytonhas his guy beat by 10 yards, I just fire a perfect flick to the back corner of the endzone , and Clayton pulls it down....Just sick, this gets the team pretty fired up. Next point we get the D, I attempt to jack another one deep, but I didn't get the cut I wanted right away and end up forcing up some swill that got D'd, we end up loosing this game 15-3....not our most shining moment but it happens we would now be "playing" St. Johns for the 4th place game

St johns didn't want to play us again, we decided it would be better for our starters not to play this game however the rules being what they are we had to play in some form so we played 15 points. no score was recorded, I had 1 more big huck to mc love it was amazing, and I also sky'd a player which was a first for me I think. we finished 4th which was amazing we got seeded 8th going into regions.

A lot has happened this year, a lot of growing up. It has had it's challenges, however, it has been a lot of fun and I wouldn't trade it for anything. However, I have mad some choices that may have not been so wise, things that have been funny looking back at them, however, it is not something that I want to be associated with anymore. That being said this post is in some ways an attempt to turn over a new leaf. So that being said I will probablly cut down on my social comentary and focus on blogging about what really matters Ultimate!

With that being said expect more spikes, more hucks, maybe some pics will even be added from this season.

Weekend thoughts

With sectionals being postponed many of us on the Duluth Men's Frisbee team took this time to unwind and decompress from our early build up to sections. A lot of us did not drink the week prior to this so given the fact that we had a snow day as well we were able to get the weekend started early. Thursday was an interesting night, a group of us had a spaghetti dinner at Creature's after that M.C and myself meandered over to Starky's for some sailor Jerry's, this was a mistake for one of us. well after a couple hours of that M.C. and myself headed over to 1018 for a slumber party..as we were leaving Jos showed up with Tsu tsu tsunami. Jos hopped in Emily's car to party over there. well there wasn't a lot of partying that went down there as M.C. got sick, spit on people and started singing, he ended up swearing of spiced rum for the rest of his life (this is at least the 3rd time he has done that). Woke up Friday morning, watched the ladies plus Jos turbo jam, it was hilarious as Yossi was very sweaty and gross by the end of it, Sam made pancakes and they were quite good. despues de esto I went back to my house for a much needed nap. Friday night I stayed in and thought about doing homework but that never happened, I was happy to hear about the Wild win and was anxious to go out and play at sections. I woke up Saturday and started to look for results from other sections. No huge upsets as far as I can remember until Sunday...that being said got dressed and went out to a snow and ho party. Well let's just say the Ho's showed up in full force, and by force I mean drag...trosverges (Valerie) was by far the most convincing ho, Becky(Chloe), and M.C. (Monique.) were not so convincing aside from the fact that acted like girls from the hood who were about 10...that being said it was hilarious, we got drunk, we bonded, we passed out it was a good time. I woke up fairly early on Sunday and looked at sectional results, I was shocked to see UNT beat Texas to win their section, big ups to those guys, and Iowa upset Luther to win their section, also big ups to them. while the Texas sectional doesn't really apply to us, the Iowa score really does. They have been very impressive all season long and this definitely reafirm that IHUC is back, regionals will be interesting Duluth is chomping at the bit to get out and play a tournament. weather looks good for next weekend, that is when you can expect a full write up of that tournament next till then.

Sections

Well sections was postponed a week due to the poor weather conditions in MN. This was a very upsetting to most of us as we were super stoked to go out to the polo grounds of maple plain and destroy some teams, however, we have to wait 1 more week before we are able to play in a tournament.

No real updates other than my advanced comp prof is a bitch! other than that not too much else is up.

April

Well april is here and it is by far my favorite month of the year for two reasons. 1 my birthday is in it, which is always nice, and 2 the college series. Asof right now we are seeded 5th and have the toughest pool simply because we are the only 2 seed that stands a real chance of breaking seed, that being said we have been training intensley the past three days and putting the finishing touches on our offense so that i will run flawlessly this year. this year so far has been a lot of hype and empty promises to ourselves so far. if we want to to live up to the hype we have created we will need to break seed. If we are going to make the statement we have been hoping to make all year long we are goiong to need to roll the teams below us! we are prefectly capable of this and I am excited to see how this year's section turns out. that bing said time for the birthday planning

Well I turn 21 this year and could not be happier about that fact. I no longer have to worry about under age consumption tickets and the police ruining my buzz (jk). Now I will probably not go to wild on my birthday cause it is a tuesday, and I do have a 9AM class I have to make it to. However, if I know the fisbee team like I do, they will be feeding me drink all night, so hopefully I pass out by 10 PM and can get up in time for that class . If that doesn't happen it's not the end of the world. Well thats all I got for now.

Spring Break part 7 the finale

Well as the sun rose, I got up got the camp fire going. within an hour or so the majority of the campsite was up and moving around. With a few of us still drunk from the night before we decided that instead of letting the hangover hit us that we would just keep our drunken state going this being said we had about half a keg left and I still had a promise to fulfill. well as some of us returned to the state we were in from the night before we had probably the best conversation of all of spring break. We talked about how all of us would have sex based on how we played ultimate. some of the highlights of this were how Northern lights would have sex, Start out really strong and hard and it would be perfect and amazing and everything that a woman could ask for. then halfway through it would all fall apart and just suck, then afterwards we would talk about how it doesn't count for anything and that next time it will be soo much better and that we will be sure to finish strong. However, by far the best one was how Curtain would have Sex, this is mainly an inside joke on the team based on how he got his nickname, but it involves a shower curtain... that being said after about 4 of us got just black out drunk we packed up and headed for the BEACH BOIY. well on the way there, 2 of us may have kinda puked. one of us in a ziplock bag in a car the other behind a dumpster. We luckily stopped at a gas station along the way and got some bread and water for those of us that may have been a little dehydrated, with fluids in body, as well as some bread I proceeded to sober up and bring an end to my spring break fun. while we were at the beach we decided it would be a good idea to mess with the people that were passed out which luckily was not me!! I was part of a group that went into Savannah for dinner that night, it was a pretty good time. My car left right after that for the long drive back to MN. Not a fun drive, but some 5 hour energy and red bull tend to keep you wide awake...
